Last night, Ms. Carter contacted Quick Drone Services to ask about using our thermal drone to search for her missing dog, Lettie. The seven-year-old female Catahoula had run away the previous day when a strong thunderstorm moved through the area.

Ms. Carter was relieved when I told her I could respond as soon as all my drone batteries were fully charged. A short time later, I arrived at her home, gathered the necessary information and began searching.

For approximately 35 minutes, I used the thermal drone to search 15–20 acres surrounding Ms. Carter’s home and along the nearby roadway. After completing the first flight, I landed to change batteries before continuing the search.

A few moments later, a friendly neighbor came outside to ask why we were flying a drone in the area. When Ms. Carter explained that we were searching for Lettie, the neighbor delivered the wonderful news we had all been hoping to hear.

Lettie was safe at their home!

The neighbors explained that Lettie had been there since the previous day. They had been caring for her while trying to determine who she belonged to.

Although the thermal drone did not directly locate Lettie, its presence brought everyone together at exactly the right moment. The search opened a conversation with a caring neighbor who had kept Lettie safe until her family could be found.

This happy ending is a wonderful reminder of how important community awareness can be when a pet goes missing. Talking with neighbors, sharing information and beginning an organized search as quickly as possible can make all the difference.

We are grateful to the kind neighbors who looked after Lettie and thrilled that she was reunited safely with Ms. Carter.
